{"id":8221,"date":"2015-01-19T08:00:34","date_gmt":"2015-01-19T12:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/?p=8221"},"modified":"2023-03-26T09:18:15","modified_gmt":"2023-03-26T13:18:15","slug":"mpx-over-ip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/2015\/01\/mpx-over-ip\/","title":{"rendered":"MPX over IP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In the progression from Circuit Switched Data to Packet Switched Data, I can think of many different applications for something like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-large wp-image-8267\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"155\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FMC01_blau_web-650x155.jpg\" alt=\"FMC01 MPX to IP CODEC\" class=\"wp-image-8267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FMC01_blau_web-650x155.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FMC01_blau_web-150x36.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FMC01_blau_web-300x72.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FMC01_blau_web-400x96.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FMC01_blau_web-50x12.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FMC01_blau_web.jpg 870w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">FMC01 MPX to IP CODEC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2wcom.com\/en\/products\/fm-solutions\/fmc01-fm-mpx-codec-mpx-over-e1ip.html\" target=\"_blank\">FMC01<\/a> MPX to IP encoder can be used for multi-point distribution (multi-frequency or same-frequency network) of FM Composite audio, or as a backup solution over a LAN bridge, LAN extension, or public network.\u00a0 I can think of several advantages of using this for a backup when composite analog STLs are in use.\u00a0 There are many compelling reasons to extend the LAN to the transmitter site these days; Transmitter control and monitoring, security cameras, office phone system extensions, internet access, backup audio, etc.\u00a0 I would think, any type of critical infrastructure (e.g. STL) over a wireless IP LAN extension should be over a licensed system.\u00a0 In the United States, the 3.6 GHz WLAN (802.11y) requires coordination and licensing, however, the way the rules are set up, the licensing process is greatly simplified over FCC Part 74 or 101 applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another similar CODEC is the Sigmacom Broadcast <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ethermpx.com\/ethermpx.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EtherMPX<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-8269\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"242\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/etherMPXdecoder_encoder.gif\" alt=\"Sigmacom Broadcast EtherMPX CODEC\" class=\"wp-image-8269\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sigmacom Broadcast EtherMPX CODEC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Features include:<br>\u2022 Transparent Analog or Digital MPX (MPX over AES), or two discrete L\/R channels (analog or AES).<br>\u2022 Built-in MPX SFN support with PTP sync (up to 6.000km in the basic version). No GPS receivers!<br>\u2022 Unicast or Multicast operation to feed an unlimited number of FM transmitters with MPX from one encoder.<br>\u2022 Linear uncompressed PCM 24-bit audio.<br>\u2022 Very low audio latency: 2,5mS in MPX mode.<br>\u2022 Perfect match with Sigmacom DDS-30 Exciter with Digital MPX input.<br>\u2022 Can be used with high-quality 802.11a\/n Ethernet links.<br>\u2022 DC coupled, balanced Analog inputs &amp; outputs with -130dBc noise floor.<br>\u2022 No modulation overshoots due to compression or AC capacitor coupling.<br>\u2022 Decoder provides simultaneous Analog &amp; Digital output for transmitter redundancy.<br>\u2022 Aux RS232 serial transparent link, Studio to Transmitter.<br>\u2022 Auto switchover to Analog input when Digital signal is lost.<br>\u2022 Centralized remote control &amp; management software<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One last thought; separating the CODEC from the radio seems to be a good idea. It allows for greater flexibility and redundancy.
