{"id":7279,"date":"2013-10-10T15:58:11","date_gmt":"2013-10-10T19:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/?p=7279"},"modified":"2023-03-29T14:08:27","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T18:08:27","slug":"nautel-v-10-repair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/2013\/10\/nautel-v-10-repair\/","title":{"rendered":"Nautel V-10 repair"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Not exactly sure how it happened, but one of our Nautel transmitters malfunctioned!&nbsp; It is a pretty rare event, so I thought the exclamation point was needed.&nbsp; One of the PA pallets went bad and the transmitter lost 1\/2 a PA module.&nbsp; Since the TPO for this particular station is 7 KW, they remained on the air at full power.&nbsp; In the interest of staying on top of things, we fixed it anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diagnostics were simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fault lights on the front of the transmitter observed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press the status button to find out faults, which were Module D failed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To to module sub-menu, find Module D and discover Q1 disabled, and Q3 shutdown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The problem is with Q3, order a new pallet from the manufacture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon removing the module, I did not see the damage at first:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-PA-module.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-PA-module-650x433.jpg\" alt=\"Nautel V series FM transmitter PA module\" class=\"wp-image-7282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-PA-module-650x433.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-PA-module-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-PA-module-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-PA-module-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-PA-module.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Nautel V series FM transmitter PA module<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is board A3, which for this particular flavor transmitter is a Nautel Part number NAPA16-B. Once I replaced the defective module with a new one, I discovered what looks like a symptom of the greater problem:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-NAPA16B.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"369\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-NAPA16B-650x369.jpg\" alt=\"Nautel NAPA16-B defective board\" class=\"wp-image-7283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-NAPA16B-650x369.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-NAPA16B-150x85.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-NAPA16B-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-NAPA16B-400x227.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Nautel-NAPA16B.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Nautel NAPA16-B defective board<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Over to the left-middle-lower section of the board, R10 and R8 are burned open.
