{"id":415,"date":"2009-10-21T17:16:59","date_gmt":"2009-10-21T21:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/?p=3928"},"modified":"2023-07-09T08:46:44","modified_gmt":"2023-07-09T12:46:44","slug":"nautel-v-40-fm-transmitter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/2009\/10\/nautel-v-40-fm-transmitter\/","title":{"rendered":"Nautel V-40 FM transmitter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yesterday, I threw out a transmitter.\u00a0 I know there is probably some radio station out there that may have been able to use a 5 KW FM transmitter but believe me, not that one.\u00a0 There are limits to how much you can help out a fellow broadcaster.\u00a0 Donating an FM transmitter that never really worked right in the first place is counterproductive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, to demonstrate that I am not a total heel, here is my favorite brand of transmitter, Nautel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Nautel-V-40-transmitter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Nautel-V-40-transmitter.jpg\" alt=\"Nautel V-40 transmitter (4 V-10 transmitters combined)\" class=\"wp-image-416\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Nautel-V-40-transmitter.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Nautel-V-40-transmitter-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Nautel V-40 transmitter (4 V-10 transmitters combined)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I like Nautel because they are rugged, reliable, and good-looking.\u00a0 Okay, good-looking is low on the list of transmitter attributes, however, you have to admit, it is good looking.\u00a0 It is also good sounding.\u00a0 The night we switched over from the long-in-the-tooth BE FM30A to the Nautel V-40 I noticed a marked improvement in the station&#8217;s sound.\u00a0 It was like somebody switched off the background noise generator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the caption states, this is 4 <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nautel.com\/v10.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">V-10 transmitters<\/a> combined with an ERI magic T combiner.\u00a0 It is set up so that if any one transmitter fails or reduces power, the magic T combiner automatically adjusts for minimum rejected power, then the SC-1 controller turns up the other three transmitters to maintain the station&#8217;s Transmitter Power Output (TPO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/28-KW-transmitter-power-output.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/28-KW-transmitter-power-output.jpg\" alt=\"TPO 28 KW\" class=\"wp-image-417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/28-KW-transmitter-power-output.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/28-KW-transmitter-power-output-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">TPO 28 KW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this case the TPO&nbsp; is 28 KW, which is getting into the semi serious range for an FM station.&nbsp;&nbsp; Nautel has updated their transmitter line, which now consists of the NV series transmitter.&nbsp; The differences mainly have to do with the IPA module\/PA module interchangeability (not interchangeable in the V series, fully interchangeable in the NV series) and the &#8220;Advanced User Interface.&#8221;&nbsp;
