In Europe, Longwave continues to be used, mainly because of its excellent ground wave propagation can cover large distances without fading or interference. \u00a0Several have closed in recent years due to the expense of maintaining tall radio towers and higher-quality programming sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a video of the transmitter site for <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Atlantic_252\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atlantic 252<\/a> in Ireland. &nbsp;Atlantic 252 went defunct in 2001, however, the frequency is still in use by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/RTE_Radio_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RTE radio 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/e-O5X7ZfQJM\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" width=\"640\" height=\"510\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>500KW is quite a bit of power. The antenna mast is 248 meters, or 813 feet tall. Interestingly, RTE discontinued service on MW (AKA AM broadcast or standard broadcast) but left this signal on the air.
