{"id":30,"date":"2009-07-10T08:53:55","date_gmt":"2009-07-10T12:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/?p=3928"},"modified":"2023-07-09T07:54:19","modified_gmt":"2023-07-09T11:54:19","slug":"tower-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/2009\/07\/tower-down\/","title":{"rendered":"Tower down"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>You know it is going to be a bad day when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>a farmer mowing grass took a wrong turn on June 16, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/KFEQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KFEQ AM<\/a> lost a guy wire and eventually one of its four towers came toppling down<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agl-mag.com\/newsletter\/July_1_KFEQ.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Above Ground Level magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is hiring the farmer down the road to come and mow the AM field a smart thing to do?\u00a0 It depends, I suppose, on whether or not your towers will be standing afterward.\u00a0 Hopefully, the guy had some insurance, if not then the station is basically screwed.\u00a0 The article did not mention that, although it did state that &#8220;The station is weighing its options,&#8221; Which does not sound good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is at least they were doing the maintenance.&nbsp; Most AM stations these days don&#8217;t even bother to mow the fields.&nbsp; Look at this picture:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-51\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/WBNR-transmitter-site.jpg\" alt=\"Tall grass at an AM transmitter site.
