{"id":2750,"date":"2011-04-08T09:53:43","date_gmt":"2011-04-08T13:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/?p=3928"},"modified":"2023-04-30T14:20:57","modified_gmt":"2023-04-30T18:20:57","slug":"wcky-transmitter-site-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/2011\/04\/wcky-transmitter-site-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"WCKY transmitter site tour"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This is of interest because of the GE BT-25-A transmitter footage. \u00a0I do not know the serial number of the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WCKY_(AM)\" target=\"_blank\">WCKY<\/a> BT-25-A transmitter, but it looks identical to the old WPTR BT-25-A unit which can be seen in <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/2009\/08\/general-electric-bt-25-a\/\" target=\"_blank\">this post<\/a>. \u00a0As I stated in that missive, I have not heard any transmitter before or since, that sounded as good as this unit. \u00a0They were really engineering marvels, even in 1999 when this video was shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UBzKHVuFRAk\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" width=\"640\" height=\"510\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No doubt the MW-50 (no letter) and particularly the DX-50 transmitters are more efficient. In this day and age when many AM stations are just scraping by, overpaying for utilities is not an option. I noticed the Harris MW-50 transmitter with the PDM drawer open.
