{"id":1599,"date":"2010-09-25T08:02:29","date_gmt":"2010-09-25T12:02:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/?p=3928"},"modified":"2023-07-26T17:09:34","modified_gmt":"2023-07-26T21:09:34","slug":"incredible-radio-tales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/2010\/09\/incredible-radio-tales\/","title":{"rendered":"Incredible Radio Tales"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/kwmr_traced-082710_copy-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"148\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/kwmr_traced-082710_copy-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1613\" title=\"kwmr_traced-082710\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Richard Dillman, who is the driving force behind the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/radiomarine.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maritime Radio Historical Society<\/a> (MRHS) has produced a show on <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kwmr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">KWMR<\/a> called &#8220;Incredible Radio Tales.&#8221; \u00a0This is a show that talks about the various sounds heard on the radio, both natural and man-made. \u00a0Many of the shortwave frequencies are used for &#8220;<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Utility_station\" target=\"_blank\">utility<\/a>&#8221; uses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He does a great job explaining things like Skyking, numbers stations, and so forth. \u00a0It is a great show, I can imagine this story being told on Halloween.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can listen to the first episode here, it&#8217;s about an hour long:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.g4aqg.sussex.ac.uk\/IRT.mp3\">http:\/\/www.g4aqg.sussex.ac.uk\/IRT.mp3<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a great example of local radio doing local things.
