{"id":1276,"date":"2010-08-14T07:33:23","date_gmt":"2010-08-14T11:33:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/?p=3928"},"modified":"2023-07-09T16:40:13","modified_gmt":"2023-07-09T20:40:13","slug":"vnc-for-android-phone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/2010\/08\/vnc-for-android-phone\/","title":{"rendered":"VNC for Android phone"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With the advent of computer file storage and automation came unmanned operation. \u00a0Unfortunately, what often happens with unmanned operations is somehow the engineer becomes responsible for station operation and ends up getting all the phone calls when anything goes wrong:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Traffic forgot to transfer the Sunday log and the station is off the air at 12 am Sunday morning. &nbsp;Call the engineer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Part-time DJ didn&#8217;t read the directions on merging logs, call the engineer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Windows has encountered a problem and needs to reboot, call the engineer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The server has locked up, call the engineer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Silence sensor, engineer&#8217;s phone number<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I got sick of driving to the radio station when things got out of whack with the AudioVault, so I installed VNC on all the machines. \u00a0From that point, I could log on from home and see what the problem was. \u00a0It was great, when traffic goobers up the log transfer, I called the traffic director at home and had her go in a fix it. \u00a0Untrained operators, called the program director. \u00a0Unfortunately, I don&#8217;t have Bill Gate&#8217;s phone number, so the Windows issues are still on me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of this was great as long as my laptop was around. \u00a0Being married, however, I had to occasionally listen to my wife, who insisted that we not take the laptop to dinner or the movies with us. \u00a0There were those occasional times when it would have been nice.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/android.androidVNC.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/android.androidVNC.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1277\" title=\"android.androidVNC\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>With the purchase of the Android phone, however, I no longer have to worry about that. \u00a0<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/android-vnc-viewer\/\" target=\"_blank\">Android VNC<\/a> is a free app that allows an Android phone to connect to any VNC server application. \u00a0The user can save all the VNC connection information on the phone. \u00a0It has several mouse options including a touch pad, touchpad mouse, mouse trackball, etc. \u00a0It connects to most VNC servers: incl TightVNC, RealVNC on Win and Linux, x11vnc, and Apple Remote Desktop on OS\/X. 0.4.3. \u00a0Special commands such as ctl-alt-del are available through the menu. \u00a0It is also fully zoomable. \u00a0All in all, I can do almost anything with the Android phone that I can do on the laptop. \u00a0My wife is thrilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a time saver.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the advent of computer file storage and automation came unmanned operation. \u00a0Unfortunately, what often happens with unmanned operations is somehow the engineer becomes responsible for station operation and ends up getting all the phone calls when anything goes wrong: I got sick of driving to the radio station when things got out of whack &hellip;
