{"id":1134,"date":"2010-07-17T09:21:14","date_gmt":"2010-07-17T13:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/?p=3928"},"modified":"2023-07-09T16:12:47","modified_gmt":"2023-07-09T20:12:47","slug":"pandoraand-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/2010\/07\/pandoraand-me\/","title":{"rendered":"Pandora and me"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I finally broke down and purchased a smartphone. \u00a0Instead of the ubiquitous iPhone however, I opted for a HTC Incredible Android phone. \u00a0Not that I have any distaste for Apple, Inc. \u00a0Rather, it is more because of the lack of ATT coverage in areas where I travel and the new data plans from ATT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The phone is great, I enjoy the functions, the GPS navigation tool, Gmail, news, and all the other apps. \u00a0It fills many roles while I am out gallivanting around earning a living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/HTC-incredible.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringradio.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/HTC-incredible.jpg\" alt=\"HTC incredible Android phone with Pandora App\" class=\"wp-image-1138\" title=\"HTC incredible\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I have tried Pandora in the past on my computer. \u00a0I found it to be okay, not great. \u00a0I guess my main issue was it seemed a little boring just listening to music. \u00a0It was good music, and when I interacted with the programming, voting a song up or down, the music selections got better. \u00a0But it was distracting to interact while I was trying to work on the computer and in the end, I turned the volume down and it became background noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the car, I figured, things would be different. &nbsp;I could listen to Pandora the same way I listened to my car radio. &nbsp;Lots of music would be great and not distracting at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except&#8230; \u00a0I found it to be&#8230; boring. \u00a0The music was great but the whole thing lacks personality. \u00a0I suppose we are blessed around here with several radio stations that play new music. \u00a0With Pandora, there was almost no new music, even if I created a new music radio station. \u00a0Further, it seemed like something was missing: \u00a0human interaction. \u00a0I enjoy hearing the deeeejay talking about some band factoid or some such. \u00a0Just listening to music endlessly left me wanting something more. \u00a0Perhaps that is just me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whilst on the road to various places, I like to listen to <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WEQX\" target=\"_blank\">WEQX<\/a> in Manchester, VT; <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WDST\" target=\"_blank\">WDST<\/a>, Woodstock, NY; <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WKZE-FM\" target=\"_blank\">WKZE<\/a>, Salisbury, CT; <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WXPK\" target=\"_blank\">WXPK<\/a>, White Plains, NY. \u00a0All of those stations have personalities and play great music. \u00a0They also stream audio, which means I can listen to them on my phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So Pandora gets a meh, and the phone gets a thumbs up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I finally broke down and purchased a smartphone. \u00a0Instead of the ubiquitous iPhone however, I opted for a HTC Incredible Android phone. \u00a0Not that I have any distaste for Apple, Inc. \u00a0Rather, it is more because of the lack of ATT coverage in areas where I travel and the new data plans from ATT.
