  • Consumers don’t care about HD Radio. IBOC has trashed AM radio, and is about to do the same to analog FM, when the FM-HD power increase is approved. IBOC is what it is – a flawed digital broadcasst system that is tearing the broadcast industry apart. Instead of “digital hype”, our analog airways are ubiquitous, and there is no reason to go digital, which is an inferior technology for the broadcst bands.

If you took a poll of the public on HD Radio, I predict that about 3% (if that) would know what you were talking about. AMHD has actually made the AM mode worse! It is mind-boggling to me why any AM station management would throw money away on such lunacy, especially when the majority are all talk! With 10 kHz. channels in the U.S., valuable bandwidth is being wasted on digital noise benefiting the few who spent their money on HD receivers, and causing interference to adjacent channel stations. A few decades ago, the FCC wouldn’t have allowed it! But, we now have lawyers and economists running the FCC instead of engineers. So, a lot of money was dumped on this boondoggle by the big ‘know it all’s” in the industry, and the result may be bankruptcy.

...radio was discovered, and not invented, and that these frequencies and principles were always in existence long before man was aware of them. Therefore, no one owns them. They are there as free as sunlight, which is a higher frequency form of the same energy.
~Alan Weiner
